Workplace horror stories told by disgruntled employees

Do Not Poke the Bear

Before I began working at Dollar Tree I asked for a Sunday off and was told that I would get it. In my first week, I asked for a schedule every day and reminded them of their promise to give me Sunday off. They refused to give me a work schedule for the entire week.

It was also ridiculous that they called me randomly to work. I had to go to college at the time, but wanted to make an impression, so I worked it out. On Sunday, my husband and I were at a fair (he had bought the tickets and it was his one day off). We were enjoying a wonderful day.

My boss called me and told to come to work. I was confused and reminded her of the promise she made with the other employees that I would get the day off because I had worked six days without complaining. She said in a mean manner that she had never promised me such a thing and demanded that I come into the store immediately.

In that moment I told her she needed to stop being so emotional and I resigned over the phone. The next day I complained to the company about how unprofessional they were and showed them photos proving the unsafe environment for our young workers.
