Common Courtesy
I work in retail. Recently, our store promoted the assistant manager to become store manager. She said that my request to be excused from the funeral of my grandmother-in law was “too late notice”. I would need to drive across town, attend the funeral and then return immediately. There would be no graveside service. No comforting my husband, whose family is small.
It wasn’t an extremely busy day. We had other employees on that schedule. I believe she was using my example. It was my last shift. I returned that day. I quit and received a voicemail from her. She said that I would have to give two weeks notice. She didn’t even show me the courtesy to do so.
