Workplace horror stories told by disgruntled employees

We must value each other

My boss asked my team to do extra shifts on the weekend in order to complete the next milestone of the project so that we could show the client we were capable of finishing the work before the deadline. We worked 14-hour days for four weeks without weekends. The last two days, we worked 36 hours nonstop since the deadline was just a day away.

No small talk or smiles; just nothing. And we don’t get paid overtime. He thanked us after we reached the milestone and then called us to a meeting, saying that we had to work like this for an undetermined period of time until they hired new staff. I, along with a few other colleagues, refused.

We told him that we would work nine hours a day, five days per week, for the money we are paid. We were beyond caring, but he didn’t seem to take us seriously. He called us to say that he is extremely disappointed, and that we do not value the company. I left, collected my things, handed my resignation letter to HR and said “See you!”
