Workplace horror stories told by disgruntled employees

Scum of the Earth

I travelled a lot with my boss. He was not the most charming person, but he did a great job. We were walking to the hotel when a woman crossed the road without looking. We were only going 5 mph, so it was not dangerous. My boss, who is always easy to anger started raging. I’m usually not affected by his temper tantrums but this time was different.

He began saying things that were really disturbing: I’m going find her room and kill that witch. He said, “She’s asking for this, you understand?” This was bad enough but he went to the next step. He asked the clerk: “Who is that woman who signed in?”. The clerk was obviously like “Err.” No”. His comments and actions horrified me.

He said those things while driving a company vehicle equipped with dash cameras and microphones. As I was checking in, I ordered room service to help me forget what I had heard. Later in the week, I spoke to my boss about the incident. She promised to investigate the matter. The recordings disappeared, and I was told that the matter should be dropped.

I quit my job and took on a new one not long after. I could not stand by an organization that would protect someone making such statements. He was fired a few months later, but only after he had earned a lot of money. This still makes me angry.
