Closing shift
I worked in a family owned sporting goods/shoes store during high school. On the second day, the owner’s child and I worked together on the closing shift. The register was not balanced, and I was told that the owner would deduct half the amount from my pay because, “who knows who is really responsible?
I never touched the money. The 17-year old me did not know it was illegal but I knew that this was nonsense. I quit the job on the spot.
