There are many unknowns in the Egyptian Desert. Aerial images from 1997 of an ominous cone spiral were leaked. This convinced everyone that aliens might be real.
It would turn out, however, that the spiral in question was a human creation. This double spiral piece of land-art was created by a trio of Greek painters. You can see it in Hurghada, along the Red Sea Coast. It is called the Desert Breath. These cones may look like giant alien anthills, but they’re actually a beautiful, clever art installation.

Sand storms in the Sahara Desert were the likely cause. The sand clouds made their way from the Sahara Desert to Eastern Europe and mixed with snow that fell in the area. The pictures of this event are strangely surreal. They look like they were captured on Mars in a snowstorm.
