Valuable Discoveries Found In Unexpected Places

82. Finds of locomotives dating back to 1850s at the bottom of the sea

Location: off the coast of New Jersey
Discovered Year: 2013.
Est. Unknown Value

On this list we’ve found graveyards for humans in some unusual locations, but finding a graveyard of trains is a first. Archeologists discovered in 2013 that two trains were buried under 90 feet of water beneath the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast New Jersey. Salt from the seawater preserved the steam engines for almost two centuries.

Others believe the engines were transported on a ship which sank during a storm. The engines could have either fallen off the barge or been pushed out of the ship by the crew to stop the vessel sinking in a stormy sea.

83. A 120-Year Old Tunnel is Found Under His House by a Bored Man

Location: Plymouth, Devon, England
The Year 2020 has been Discovered
Est. Unknown Value

Many people in 2020 were stuck at home and chose to DIY. Others were frantic calls to contractors. Some DIY projects went very well. A DIY-er in 2020 experienced a completely different outcome.

The wall of his home had a texture that was different from the rest. He decided to look into it. The wall was knocked out and he discovered a tunnel dating back 120 years that ran beneath his house. He found random bottles and tins as well as paint cans in the tunnel. The man, after consulting a friend who is a historian, surmised this tunnel was a cellar. This feature was common in nineteenth century homes.
