64. Two kids find a Ferrari buried in their backyard

Location: Los Angeles, California
Date of discovery: 1978
Est. Value: $853,000*

Two boys in California began digging their backyard. The boys found a 1974 Ferrari Dino GTS just a few inches below the surface of their dirt. It was wrapped in towels and a plastic tarp to indicate that the former owner intended to exhume this Dino one day.

That’s not the whole story. It turns out that the Dino’s previous owner had hired thieves to steal the car, dump it into the ocean and commit insurance fraud. The thieves instead buried the vehicle, hoping that they would return later to retrieve it in an insurance fraud plan which never worked out. This wacky story would be a fantastic IMAX film.
