Est. Value: $400,000-$600,000*

Bishops Castle Community College had an old piano tuned by a professional tuner. The tuner discovered the biggest hoard of coins in Britain when he took the piano apart. Former owner of the gold had hidden coins inside the piano and never returned to retrieve them.

Shrewsbury’s Coroner’s Court declared the gold sovereigns “treasure,” and split the profits with the College. These 913 sovereigns were minted between 1847 and 1915. Their total estimated value is $400,000-$600,000. Although fifty people claimed the treasure, John Ellery the county coroner did not believe any of them. He ruled that the owner was “unknown.”

51. Man Unearths Haunting Discoveries During Pool Dig

New Orleans Location:
Discovered Year: 2011.
Est. Value: N/A

These finds could confirm that New Orleans really is the “most haunted” city in America. Some discoveries could be the stuff of Halloween stories, rather than buried treasure. One man discovered an old graveyard while digging his French Quarter back yard.

The oldest neighborhood in New Orleans, he found 13 caskets. It turns out that the neighborhood of the homeowner was home to the very first graveyard in the early 1700s. He said that he was expecting to find something, since this is the French Quarter. However, he did not expect to discover human remains.
