Valuable Discoveries Found In Unexpected Places

42. Thrift Store Finds American Declaration of Independence

Location: Pennsylvania
The Year of Discovery: 1992
Est. Value: $2.18 million*

Some people find things of great value in thrift shops. A collector found this at a flea market in Pennsylvania. The frame around the painting was what prompted him to buy a $4 “dismal”. He discovered that the Declaration of Independence was inside the artwork.

He learned after it was authenticated that the copy he had is the original printing. It was worth $1 million when it went to auction in 1991 (or about $2.18 in current money)

43. Couple Discovers Medieval Well under Their Living Room Flooring

Plymouth (England)
Discovered Year: 2015.
Est. Unknown Value

When a British couple tried to figure out why the floor of their living room wasn’t level, they discovered an incredible discovery beneath their foundation. When they pulled up the floorboards, they discovered a thirty-three-foot-deep well that dates back to medieval times.

According to research, it appears that the aqueduct was constructed in the 1500s. The aqueduct was built by Sir Francis Drake to transport water from Plymouth, Devon to Dartmouth. The homeowners covered the well with a trapdoor to make it more visible. We can only hope that this will not be the plot of the next installment of PARA.
