Make Friends on the Flight
Singapore Airlines flew directly from Moscow to Houston. A couple of elderly Singaporeans sat behind us. They removed their shoes and used the armrests on our seat to raise their feet. The smell was unavoidable. My boyfriend was on my window side and an older man was sitting on the aisle. The older man starts complaining about the smell.
He is berating flight attendants about it. The elderly couple is repeatedly asked to move their legs, but they just keep pushing them back. He finally decides to calm himself down. He tells me that he will not want to move during the 13 hour flight. He tells me through headphones, with my obvious lack of interest, all about the languages he knows, places he has worked and how much money he earns.
He was telling me the story of his childhood in Louisiana, and I mentioned that I had family in Shreveport. I didn’t know what to say as I didn’t want to speak. He uses the moment to tell me how stupid I was for bringing up that it wasn’t relevant since it was several hours away from his hometown. Around half-way through the trip, I asked him to let him out so that I could use the bathroom. He acted like a child and stormed around the cabin.
He criticized me for my timing (?) When I returned to my chair.
