The Fiery Fight
I was on a flight at night 15 years ago. The captain suddenly makes an announcement and turns on the cabin lights. You may smell a foul odor. We are experiencing an electrical fire and we don’t know how fast it will spread. We will perform an emergency landing at the nearest airport in 15 minutes. Please pay attention to the flight attendants who will be instructing you on how to perform a crash landing.
I thought that there would be a lot of noise, but it was very quiet. My 11-month old was with me, and I was told to take him in my arms as well as do the crash landing procedure to protect his body. We were all thought to be dead by everyone on the plane. I was quietly talking to my baby and pointing out of the window at Earth below, telling him how beautiful everything was.
I didn’t wish for him to be scared. We all relaxed a little after about 10 minutes, when there was no major failure. We positioned ourselves all for a crash-landing. The tarmac lit up with flashing lights from fire trucks, ambulances and other vehicles in preparation for the worst case scenario.
Thank God, we landed without incident and smoothly. It was a very, very bad 15 minutes.
