Unforgettable Airline Travel Horror Stories

What is a Headache?

My father and I once were the first to pre-board on our flight from Atlanta to Cleveland Clinic due to my severe migraine disorder, cluster of headaches and general frailty. The woman behind us in the wheelchair was a large woman of 30 or so. She said “Excuse Me! You’re not old enough to pre-board. Let’s let the older people go. “You can stand”

I replied that I was able to stand for a short time, but I needed to sit down ASAP. She continued to berate me while I was in pain and had a migraine aura, which made it so that I could not see. The woman started screaming at us to “stop pretending” and move aside as I was in agony and had a migraine aura.

Later, my wonderful Papa told that he replied “As though we could move you out of the way and still make it to our flight”. The woman had shrieked at this point, and she needed to be wheeled out to calm down. She was told to calm down either at the gate, or with TSA. I was given a wheelchair by the gate attendants, who helped me on to the plane and placed me in one of the best open seats.

It was a great flight, I can’t recall what class was.
