Unforgettable Airline Travel Horror Stories

He Went Bro Mode

The airline staff asked passengers with large carry-ons to check them out at the front door as there was not much space on the plane. The guy in line ahead of me was carrying a large bag and kept saying to the airline staff, “Nah. It’ll be okay, it will fit.” Don’t worry, everything will be fine. “Blah, blah, blah” until finally the employee was sick of it. He let him go with the bag.

We continue down the aisle. He throws his bag into a row of empty seats. Then he enters that row until he is almost out of the aisle and begins to dig through his bag. He still has his butt sticking out slightly into the aisle, and I didn’t want it to get in my way, so I waited for him to realize that he had accidentally blocked the aisle.

After about 30 seconds the people behind me start to complain, so I politely ask the guy, without being angry, “Excuse you, mind if I slip by?” I assumed that he didn’t know he was blocking the aisle. He suddenly switches into full “bro mode”, wheels towards me, gets up in my face and says loudly and aggressively “You’ve even flown on an actual plane before?” You gotta wait until I put my bag up”.

I am not an aggressive guy, so when I was shocked, I tried to explain before I could even think about my words: “Sorry, man, your butt wasn’t the only thing blocking the path and I didn’t really want to touch it”. I wasn’t very articulate or graceful, but the sudden aggression had me in shock. He did not like it.

He spits all over me and yells, “I don’t appreciate your language” (uh…what, the word “butt?”) “Wanta make this something?” He took a slightly aggressive stance with his arm slightly cocked. I can’t remember what I said or did next but it was enough for him to give up the bro-down and turn to his bag. He then tossed it into an overhead bin.

Then he goes out to the aisle, goes down a few rows…to my row…and takes the seat right next to the ticketed one. We were seated next to each other for the entire flight. He looked as if he was going to punch me when he saw that I was about to sit next to him. Both of us were sure to have had a difficult flight.
