Unforgettable Airline Travel Horror Stories

Take matters into my own hands

I was a teenager flying to Utah for my first tour. The captain announced on the loudspeaker that an engine had failed, and we would need to make an emergency land in Chicago. We were all a bit concerned. One angry passenger decided to take matters into her hands. The woman stormed the flight attendant, yelling and screaming.

She said she was a babysitter and had to go to Utah so she could take care of the children that she looked after. She didn’t say what she hoped for. I don’t know if she thought the pilot would take a risk to get us through the flight when he heard that there was a babysitter on board, or if she hoped that the flight attendant, moved by the story, would climb up on the wing of the plane and fix the engine in mid-flight.

This passenger was not given an emergency jet pack so she could blast off the plane and get to Utah in time. She was instructed to sit down.
