After 50 Years
The car was dug up for the first time in 50 years, on the 15th of June 2007. Preparations had been done 18 months in advance to ensure a smooth process. Nine thousand people attended the event, including tourists, journalists, and residents of the city. Unfortunately, the area in which the car was buried wasn’t waterproof. The color of the car changed drastically as a result. There were also some engineering mistakes at the time that caused water to seep into the car and cause damage.
