The 17th-Century Remains of a Bishop Solves An Ancient Mystery

The common and mysterious

The motives and circumstances surrounding the burial of the fetus with Peder remain unclear. Maja gave some context by noting.

This is a common occurrence in Scandinavia during medieval times. We see many burials of adult people with children. We don’t understand why this is. Armed with new research tools and determination, she vowed to solve the mystery.

Still investigating

Maja’s research aims to discover the relationships between adults and children buried together. She said, “Nobody has ever investigated that because we only have the tools now.”

Among all the theories, one theory was that the person who placed the fetus next to the bishop hoped Peder will shepherd the soul of the unborn in the afterlife.
