Rich people who are out of touch

The Leveling Up

I used to work in a retail store’s cell phone department. We had to meet a daily quota of insurance plans for phones. One woman had just purchased four iPhones, one for each member of her family. I offered her insurance. I was shivered by her answer.

She was so wealthy that she said it didn’t matter because she would buy new phones in the event of an emergency. In 2018, four top-of the-line iPhones cost about $1000 each. I wanted to sell insurance because $4,000 without insurance or any add-ons could hurt my sales. $4,000 is also a big investment.

My pitch was, “What would happen if you broke the phone or cracked the screen?” Then it became terrifying. To prove that she didn’t require insurance, she bought four replacement phones. She then proceeded with her criticism of my sales skills, and made fun of me for being a college student who was working to pay tuition.

She must have listened in on my conversation with another co-worker. Up until now, I would not have been bothered by anything. After I had finished setting up her phone, , she went to the next step., she dropped the phone on a section that was not carpeted.

Then she came to me and said that I should set up her new account. I was really offended, but had no other choice. I couldn’t say no to a customer that had just spent $8,000 in our store.
