Rich people who are out of touch

The Boy Who Lived

One of my co-workers had a daughter that chose to marry at a local location. This venue was featured in a well-known film about a boy wizard, three months prior to her wedding. A bizarre chain of events was set in motion. The daughter received a phone call about a month prior to the wedding from the venue.

They asked her, incredulously, if she would move her wedding forward a month. She said no, as all the invitations were sent out, her family was coming from different countries, and they had already booked flights and hotels. The logistical nightmare of changing everything would have been too much.

This person was willing to do whatever it took to celebrate this child’s birthday, which happened coincidentally with the original wedding weekend, at the venue. This person was prepared to do anything to celebrate the birthday of this child, which fell on the original wedding weekend.

The daughter of my colleague only agreed to relocate her wedding when the rich person offered not only to pay for the wedding but also for the new flights, accommodations, florists and photographers as well as the mortgage on the newly purchased house. Costs were several hundred thousands of dollars but the rich seemed to think it was nothing.
