New Cars for the New Season

This guy was super wealthy and bought a new vehicle almost every semester at my university. He went to the parking lot during his final semester to dispute a parking ticket of $30 for parking in an area reserved for faculty. He wanted to park next to the building, instead of in one of the large parking decks that were 10 minutes away.

This student’s defense was that he parks in faculty parking lots all the time, and pays the fine. He knew how it worked. This time, I wasn’t parking in a faculty space. The admin checked his record. The bottom fell out. Over the last four years, it appears that he received more than 300 parking tickets in faculty spaces.

All of them were paid instantly. The guy’s philosophy was basically “Nah. Screw it.” I won’t walk. “I’ll park on a professors’ spot every day and pay the fine.” They did waive the fine he had disputed, and I believe he was correct that it wasn’t faculty parking.
