I’ve worked for some of Maryland’s richest people, but the doctor I worked with in Montgomery County stands out above all others. It is one of America’s most affluent ZIP codes.
He owned many offices in the DC area and employed a large number of staff, including doctors. He was a very wealthy man. He had an apartment with a garage filled with Ferraris and other expensive cars. I used to manage all the servers for his medical office and sometimes went to their home because I was the main admin.
When I was in his home, I walked upstairs to the bedrooms and saw the most horrifying sight. This guy is lying in bed, being fed by a staff member. He was lying on the bed, being fed by an assistant. It was odd to say the least.
Imagine that someone feeds you a complete meal, including a steak, soup, salad and so on. You never touch anything. It was like a child being fed by an adult. It was the first time I had seen something like that. I thought of a dictator, or someone who demanded to be treated as a literal king. Remember that this man was in his fifties and in excellent physical condition. He didn’t require a caregiver. It was pure opulence.
