Rich people who are out of touch

Satellite Dish Drama

I installed DIRECTV in wealthy neighborhoods of a US east coast city. Although I gave customers a choice of where to install the satellite dish, it had to be in a place that would allow the dish to function properly. I only found two spots to install the satellite dish at the house of a rich woman, a beautiful house on the beach.

Either on a pole at the middle of the backyard, or on a corner of the roof. She did not want the pole in her backyard. It was only a problem because she had a roof made of metal and we needed special mounting hardware to do so. We were back-ordered for that specific hardware a few months out.

She was visibly upset when I told her that she would have to wait so long for her cable to be installed. I told her to reschedule the appointment a few weeks down the road and apologized several times. Three days later I was going through my work orders and noticed her name again.

Wow, I thought. I thought, “Wow. I was shocked when I arrived at the house. The roof had been completely re-shingled. She must have been desperate to get some cable. I was able, thanks to the new roof, to install her satellite dish.
