John Travolta Breaks His Silence

Boy in the Plastic Bubble

John Travolta played the lead role in the 1976 TV film “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.” Travolta played a leading character named Tom, who was born with a deficient immune system. He must therefore restrict his life to prevent him from catching any infections, as his body is not able to fight off such illnesses. Tod, desperate to try new things, must be protected by a plastic bubble.

Gina, the girl living in the house right next door, is his love interest. Tod falls in love with Gina when he learns that he is immune enough to leave his bubble. Travolta was smitten with Diana Hyland, who played Tod’s mother.

Love Before Kelly

Diana Hyland and John Travolta may have appeared to be an unlikely pair, but they were a true love match. Love can overcome all distances. They were 18 years apart. The unlikely pair met on the set “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” and acted as mother and son.

Travolta held Hyland in his arms as she died of breast cancer at 41. Hyland received an Emmy Award for her role in “Boy in the Plastic Bubble”, which Travolta accepted in Hyland’s honor.
